Bringing the Film Fest to You

Once you’ve had window film, you don’t go without window film

Advanced Film Solutions, Inc. Vice President and
Co-Founder Adam Feldman loves talking about how much window film can do – because he feels no one else is talking about it nearly enough: Its security assets, energy-saving features, design benefits and privacy-protecting advantages.

“There should be a national campaign for window film,” he said, with his company on the Orlando Utility Commission (OUC) preferred vendor list.

In other words, window film is like a well-kept secret that needs to be promoted and used more to keep Florida homes more cool, secure, protected and private. “I constantly have to find new people to talk to about it,” said Adam.

And window film in today’s homes is not the obvious, thick purple film with air bubbles seen in cars back in the day, either. Window film has come a long way. It can be decorative, enhance the view outside, and has many other uses and benefits that save homeowners real money and solve real problems. It comes with a lifetime warranty covering everything from bubbling to turning colors.

“Once you’ve had window film, you don’t go without window film,” said Adam.

            He offers these quick stats:

•           When it comes to home energy savings, window film pays
            for itself after 18-24 months

•           A dark window tint can reduce heat coming into your home
up to 84%, extending the life of your HVAC system

•           Safety film makes glass 40 times less likely to break

            Layers of family legacy

Adam’s shouting from the rooftops about today’s uses of window film – and his happy customers as a result – began with a family interest in the product, starting with his dad.

His father Mike worked for the 3M company for over 30 years, and eventually became the National Sales Manager of its Window Film Division. Adam remembers conversations about window film between his parents when he was a child. At 16, Adam jumped into the industry himself, with a job at a window film company. Then the family started Advanced Film Solutions – with Mike and Adam’s combined knowledge at its base.

These days, Adam sees issues in our news headlines where window film can help, such as storms and school security, for example. And schools are taking notice.

Window film helps reinforce glass and make it stronger so it won’t break as easily, and when it does, it spiderwebs rather than breaks in shards, potentially causing injury and – in the case of an intruder – entry.

Think of it as a protective coating.

“What we are doing, in essence, is laminating the glass,” said Adam. “What we recommend is tinted window film – so for a residence, for example, they also can’t see in to see if you have a TV worth stealing in the first place.” Window tinting is on every school building in Hillsborough County and every city building in Pinellas Park, said Adam. “We also have bids in for three or four other school buildings right now.”

Different parts of one’s home may require different tints. At the back of the house, if there is a water view, a blue tint can help emphasize that scenery, Adam said. At front and back entry windows, security tint may be a better option. Where it’s especially sunny, and nice furniture needs to be protected from fading as well, a darker tint could be called for.

Clients are given samples to try so they can see the difference for themselves after Advanced Film Solutions pinpoints the things window tinting can improve.

“Give us five minutes to explain what we do – and we will give you the world,” said Adam.
