Making Your Home Magical
by Ilyne Hayes
Living here in the greater Orlando area, we are accustomed to seeing amazing things, things so beautiful and magical that families from all over the world are drawn to Florida just so they can experience the wonder of places like Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, the Kennedy Space Center, Sea World, and even the upside-down building of Ripley’s Believe It or Not.
Dennis Clegg, Master Carpenter and CEO of C&S Themed Interiors has been a huge part of making this magic happen for over 30 years. Starting out as Clegg and Son, he and his son, Frank, used their skills and talents building sets for movies, television shows, concerts, and dramatic special events, where they learned the importance of providing a meticulously detailed set in an extremely limited time allotment. Over the years, with the expansion of CGI, and the growth of the technology used in filming, Dennis felt that it was time to expand their business and help private homeowners make their dreams a reality.
In 2010, Dennis started a new company, C&S, with a 15,000 square foot shop and 10-20 artisans and full-time craftsmen, plus part timers added when needed for larger projects.
Most of the magic starts with a visit by Dennis, who will meet with the homeowner or their designer to learn of their vision and to examine and measure the space. “We’ve had clients who have been dreaming about what they want for years and will come to us with lots of ideas and photos. We take all their ideas and desires for the space and morph them into something that is their very own, so that at the end of the day it becomes even more than what they expected.”
If you’d like your home theater room to look, sound, and feel as though it’s a futuristic spaceship, about to take you on a mission to explore strange new worlds, C&S Themed Interiors will design a replica of a star ship bridge, complete with blinking light “control panels,” custom-made captain’s chairs, and multiple TV screens.
A couple who want their own private “take me away” spaces may choose an Irish pub theme for his man cave, replete with rich, raised panel trim, custom wainscoting and chair rail, faux-painted crown molding and columns, detailed wooden bar and leather stools, along with a patina finish on a wood plank floor. She may desire an indoor “she shed,” that transports her to an old French Bistro with brick walls, pecky cypress beams against a wood-plank ceiling, and well-aged wrought iron accents. With La Vie En Rose playing in the background and a glass of Bordeaux on the table, she can enjoy her relaxing trip to Paris without leaving her home!
Themed rooms for the kids are just as limitless as their imagination. Is their idea of a fun adventure discovering treasures and fantastical sea life around a sunken pirate ship or traveling through space in their own rocket ship? Perhaps they want to be transported to a magical academy for the training of wizards? Whether your child dreams of a high castle tower to let down her hair, or one with a drawbridge and “moat” to battle dragons, the incredibly talented staff of C&S Themed Interiors can customize their special space to make their fantasies feel real, but are designed and built with their safety in mind.
